Hi, I’m Rose! Welcome to my art space! I’m glad you’re here!! I’m a Viet-American visual artist, based in the Inland Empire, primarily working in traditional mediums of painting and drawing, mixed media, and textiles.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
My textile work represents my bicultural experience, balancing between two types of identities. As my practice aligns with the representation of assembling an identity from scratch, I construct an entity that exists separately from others and has an identity of its own. In manipulating decorative materials and inexpensive fabric from accessible stores, like Dollar Tree, creating woven tapestries and figural images; each item is an entity that has a material existence. Each work’s identity conforms to a traditional structure while its unique materials represent the assimilation of American individuality, revealing the complexities of the Asian American experience. Meanwhile, my traditional mediums: oil, acrylic, ink, and charcoal, with the honorable mention of digital mediums, are used to signify important cultural elements, such as costumes, daily rituals, and spiritual ideas, interpreted by a contemporary lens, in paralleling my bicultural sense of self.
